school projects

year 1

One of our first assignments. We had  10 themes and had to photograph something associated to it. Themes included self-portrait, sky, abstract, and still life.

We had to imitate a Fisheye magazine cover. Professor didn’t like this one.

I do think the theme was a bit too dark.

Team project. We had to make a pamphlet/poster-ish images describing our program. I conceptualized the graffiti style and communicated the idea and execution to the rest of the team so they could follow the template of my two images here.

Assignment was to pick a graphic designer and make double page magazine about them in their style. That’s Neil Fujita, known for his work on The Godfather. Good film (and logo!)

For this class we had to make a logo for a fictional confectionery brand/company, and a logo guideline document for it. I, a  sci-fi fan, went the mega-corp dark side for candy-making.

Retro-style teaser trailer.

In this timeline, the world became rapidly unhabitable after 2054. Resources became scarce, countries went to war and isolated themselves, bombs fell. Surviving societies became dystopian and Old World culture was lost.

In 2074, Québec rose from radioactive ashes and formed the Techno-State of Québec, world leader of reviving old and making new technology. However, scars from the previous province lingered and, to maintain grip on its populace, drastic measures to limit exposure to old culture and freedoms were exerced.

Anyway they seem to have recovered this old cowboy video.

Of our choosing, we had to pick a painting and animate its elements with the puppet tool of After Effects. Here I cropped animals from a different painting and added them to the savanna.

And wowie, animating animals walking is hard! They even ended up looking funny. =(

AZATHOTH MY ELDRITCH GOD 🗣️🗣️🗣️

Now I enjoyed working on this video very much! I sort of went sideways with the assignment, we had to make a ‘comedic’ motion graphic video introducing/explaining a subject of our choosing. I decided to go with the Cthulhu Mythos… with a touch of suspense and analog uneasiness :’)

Watch out, don’t pick the last option… you will be spirited to n’ghftnah

#3D

and some more vids

Our introduction to 3D with Cinema4D!

We had to use a cube as base and do something with it.

Well, I tore some walls down, added columns, stairs, and some big Greek God inside. All in marble.

I have to say, it was very frustrating.

The objective was to make a chain reaction using a red ball, basically have it knock down and move stuff around.

I went a bit too overboard ambitition-wise: I wanted to tear a whole castle down. Terrible idea for GPU’s (and my deadline).

The original idea was to make it called “Fragile Castle”, instead it got made into Sturdy Castle. I had to tone down the physics due to the massive amount of render time it took. I still got a good score, but personally it was a C-score project.

This time, lessons were learned!

While it had little to no physics (besides that flame at the end), I made sure to tweak my render settings and do everything in advance.

Here you see the Pharos, the Lighthouse of Alexandria. We had to pick an historical building and model it, then make a virtual tour in Unity.
